At Newtech Recycling, we believe that knowledge is key to making informed decisions about responsible e-waste disposal and electronic recycling. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and customer satisfaction drives us to provide you with all the information you need to understand the importance of recycling electronic devices properly.

As a leading electronic recycling company, we encounter many questions from our valued clients, ranging from the safe disposal of old gadgets to the environmental impact of e-waste. To address these queries and more, we have curated this comprehensive FAQ page, where we aim to shed light on various aspects of e-waste recycling, including our corporate recycling services.

There are three primary costs involved when it comes to disposing of your old electronics, hardware, and IT office equipment. Firstly, you have the cost of collection. Secondly, you have the cost of de-manufacturing and recycling. Thirdly, and this is optional, you have the cost of shredding your hard drives and data storage systems.

In terms of the actual dollar cost, some items may be free to recycle. And if you purchase your office supplies through Village Office Supply (one of our community partners) the cost of collection can sometimes be free as well. However, as a rule, the cost of collection and recycling is standardized to your pickup location and the type of e-waste you have. If you would like a clear guide or a quick quote, please call: 732-564-3110.

Newtech offers a nationwide e-waste collection service. Our primary/most regular collection routes cover the Tri-State and New York Metropolitan areas. In addition to collecting e-waste from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, we also regularly collect from parts of Pennsylvania.

*Newtech Recycling only collects e-waste from business addresses. We cannot collect residential e-waste from the homes of private individuals or residential addresses. However, if you are a resident and would like to use Newtech to recycle your electronics, you are welcome to call us and arrange a drop-off (732-564-3110). Just about anything with a plug is classified as e-waste. In your office, common everyday items like your computer/laptop, keyboard, mouse, printer/copier, phone, television, etc. are all classified as e-waste and must be recycled. Any equipment, hardware, or machinery with circuit boards are also classified as e-waste.

Things Newtech doesn’t recycle are fridges, freezers, and equipment exposed to radiation, such as X-ray machines and CAT scanners. Otherwise, we can handle other types of  laboratory and medical equipment. These objects should be sent to recyclers that possess the ability to manage non-solid toxic waste. Newtech recycling primarily recycles solid electronic waste, specializing in disposing computer and information technology hardware. We also recycle electronics, equipment, and machinery. To see if we can handle your e-waste materials, call us: 732-564-3110.

It is illegal to dispose of e-waste in the following states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York State, New York City, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

*E-Waste cannot be disposed of with the regular trash because it will end up in a landfill site, where it may pollute the water tables and agricultural land. By law, if a business or individual, wishes to dispose of their scrap electronics, computers and IT hardware they must take it to a state-authorized electronic waste recycler. E-Waste recyclers are required by the aforementioned states to recycle electronic waste responsibly.

If a company has failed to recycle its e-waste correctly, usually the company is prosecuted. However, there are cases where individual staff have been given a prison sentence for failing to ensure data has been permanently removed from IT hardware prior to disposal.

By far one of the biggest fines was received by a telecommunications company. They were ordered to pay a colossal $52 million for illegally dumping electronic waste. One of the individuals involved was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for his role. It’s not just businesses that have been investigated, State police departments and government offices have also come under the hammer for failing to manage their electronics and IT hardware appropriately too.

Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource lifecycles so that all products are reused or at least, all of their materials are. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills or incinerators. The process recommended is one similar to the way that resources are reused in nature.

Thousands of companies around the USA are doing their part to recycle by creating their own zero-landfill policies. Most businesses recycle paper, IT hardware, ink toners, and even office furniture. Newtech aims to help your company with its sustainability credentials by helping you to recycle all your old computers, IT hardware, and supporting infrastructure. We also issue an e-waste accreditation that proves you have recycled your e-waste responsibly.

One of the largest liabilities businesses face can come from data being recovered from old hard drives. Hard drives are in everything, from copiers to mobile devices, desktops to laptops.

By far the most effective way of destroying data is to physically destroy the hard drive by having it shredded. Shredding the disk guarantees data is destroyed.

R2:2013 is an accreditation developed by a multi-stakeholder group, SERI, to establish the principles and standards for ethical and sustainable electronics recycling international. The requirements contained within R2:2013 certification are comprehensive, covering environmental, health and safety, and data security practices.

To further ensure the integrity and strength of the Standard, R2:2013 now requires recycling facilities (such as Newtech) to obtain certification to one or more generally accepted environmental, health, and safety management systems. Newtech is R2 certified because as a global electronics recycler, It’s morally and legally important to us that we ensure the highest standards and only work with the most trustworthy and reputable of businesses around the world.
